Once again, not satisfied with where I was, I set out for California in May 1996. The route this time went more northward as I rode up to Raton, NM, then up to Denver, CO. Once to Denver I turned west to ride through the Rockies, climbing to a peak altitude of 12,000 feet. The rest of western Colorado was a gradual slope of rolling hills down to the boring plains of eastern Utah. That night I camped out at Al Davis' place again, this time I was happy to be greeted by Al himself.

I failed to pick up a camera before I left for this trip as well. Dave, my trusty travelling companion, was not so forgetful when he packed for his trip. He even packed a passenger to take pictures for him while he was driving.

Here Dave is dealing with rural California traffic. Dave was unfortunate enough to hit it right at 5:30p.
